KARE to Hold 2 Week Food Drive Event and Sale

Last year, Kershaw Area Resource Exchange (KARE) provided 881 households with food assistance. KARE’s food pantry is stocked through a partnership with Second Harvest Food Drive, community food drives, and individual donations. With the pandemic shutting down most schools, churches, and organizations in 2020, the organized drives were greatly affected. One of the largest, Stamp Out Hunger – an initiative sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers – typically produces around 2 tons of food for our pantry from donations left at mailboxes and collected by mail carriers. Because this event is held in May, last year, it was cancelled altogether because there were still so many unknowns. Unfortunately, it is cancelled again this year, so KARE is adapting.

Instead of one day of collecting, KARE will collect donations from May 17-31 and there are multiple opportunities to lend support. Table tents featuring a scannable QR code will be around town providing a quick and simple way to donate online while out and about dining or shopping. The KARE website www.kershawkare.org also provides an opportunity to give online. As always, KARE accepts checks (put Stamp Out Hunger in the memo line) mailed to KARE, PO Box 364, Kershaw, SC 29067.

The community always love a good sale at the KARE resale store, but a sale with a purpose is icing on the cake. For two weeks (May 18-22 and 25-29), bring 2 or more pantry items and receive 50% off the entire purchase. Store hours are Tuesday through Friday, 1-5pm and Saturday 9am-2pm.

Help KARE Stamp Out Hunger in the community.
